If you have applied a theme and your custom icons are not working, try these methods (in this order) and see if the issue is resolved.

  1. Make sure in WinterBoard you have 'SummerBoard Mode' turned ON. If not, turn it on, exit WinterBoard, and let your device respring.
  2. Double-check that all of the icons in the theme's 'Icons' folder are named exactly the same as the apps are named on your device's Home Screen. This includes capitalization and spaces.  This also includes if you renamed an icon with a cydia app. For example if you changed the app name Safari to Internet, you will need to add an icon called Internet instead of Safari. If you have a retina device you will need to have 2 versions of each icon, one named appnamehere.png and one with @2x on the end so that would be appnamehere@2x.png.
  3. Clear your icons cache using one of these methods:
    • Install iWipeCache from Cydia and use it. If it doesn't work first time, give it at least two more tries and one reboot.
    • Clear them manually via iFile, SSH or USB. If you don't know how to connect to your device, read this forum post. Once connected to your device, navigate to Root > Private > Var > Mobile > Library > Caches > com.apple.IconsCache and delete all of its contents. Then, respring or reboot your device.
  4. Deactivate the theme in WinterBoard, respring and re-apply the theme.

You dont need iWipe, or even iWipeCache because thats for icons not backgrounds. I cant really help you much unless i know what device and firmware you have.

My best advice though for backgrounds not working is to not include it in your theme but to sync it to your device with itunes and then apply it with the settings app.

You can try... If your lockscreen background isnt changing then change your image name from Lockbackground to Lockbackground@2x. For the homescreen image rename it from Wallpaper to Wallpaper@2x

The reason things are not working correctly is because the theme builder doesnt support your device right now. Retina device support is to come.

I have an iPod Touch 2G and I'm having the same problem with the backgrounds and the lockscreen not changing. With the theme I created, the backgrounds don't work but when I download a different random theme from this site, the backgrounds work but the lockscreen won't. Do you know what might be wrong?

this is the theme I tried to download but it failed (the icons change, but the backgrounds and lockscreen doesn't show): http://www.codethemed.com/themes/75182
and this is the theme I'm using where the background works (and the icons) but the lockscreen doesn't change: http://www.codethemed.com/themes/50801

Thanks in advance!

I tried all 4 methods, none seemed to work. On my iphone 4 I noticed that 2 of my custom icons are appearing, but others are not. I have not renamed anything on the phone regarding apps, & I can't seem to find the "icons" folder in my theme folder. Am I just blind, or is something wrong?
